Absolute Basics courses

Absolute Basics of Chemometrics | 1st October 2026

Metabolomics Training Courses

Learn the fundamentals of chemometrics, with this 1-day classroom-based beginners course for professionals and students. This introduction to chemometrics will take you through data-driven chemical analysis, mathematical statistics in chemistry and chemical data interpretation for use in analytical chemistry and analytical science.

“The course was based on practical applications that I could easily relate to.” PhD Student 2026

Absolute Basics of GC and GC-MS | 2nd October 2026

GC and GC-MS

Learn the fundamentals of gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), with this 1-day classroom-based beginners course for professionals and students that is approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This introductory, analytical chemistry course will cover the what, how, why, where and when of GC and GC-MS and will take you from sample introduction through to understanding chromatograms and mass spectra. Improve your understanding further with the opportunity to be shown GC and GC-MS instrument parts and consumables such as an MS quadrupole, ion source and detector and, a GC analytical column, liners and septa.

“What I liked most about the course was that it was easy to understand, the presentation of the equipment was quite clear, smooth, and comprehensive. What I found most useful were the different sections, as they provided a better understanding of the equipment and were well described.” Chemistry Student, 2026

Why attend an Absolute Basics course?

These beginner-friendly courses are designed to introduce core scientific techniques without advanced detail or industry jargon. They cover the essential theory and first principles you need before applying your knowledge through interactive application exercises, helping you build confidence from day one.

Learn the What? How? Why? Where? When? of the technique, focus on the understanding to help with the doing and go through real-word examples and exercises to understand the fundamentals.

These courses are a great for new starters in the laboratory or technical roles, a refresher for those who haven’t used the technique in a while and professionals who don’t have a scientific background but want to understand the technique for their role.

Hands-on courses

Hands-on FTIR | 15th – 16th October 2026

Combine both the practical theory of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) with hands-on laboratory exercises during this comprehensive 2-day training course. Apply the knowledge learnt in each module through practical exercises involving FTIR instrumentation, sampling accessories, spectral interpretation and data processing. You will gain experience using modern FTIR instrumentation and a variety of sampling techniques including attenuated total reflectance (ATR), transmission, diffuse reflectance and trans-reflection analysis.

“I enjoyed the time spent on instrument and spectral interpretation. It was more complete than other courses due to the opportunity to practice.” Senior Technician, 2025

Why attend a Hands-on course?

Gain practical experience with our Hands-on courses, taking theory learnt in the classroom to perform exercises in the laboratory.

With 50% theory and 50% laboratory experience, learn by doing and not just observing. Build confidence working with the instrument, perform analyses independently and be able to immediately apply application skills to your work.

These courses are great for laboratory professionals seeking practical skills, those with theoretical skills needing to bridge the gap to instrument experience and anyone wanting real hands-on experience.

Applied courses

Applied ICP-OES | 21st October 2026

Go beyond the basics of ICP-OES with this intermediate 1-day virtual-classroom elemental analysis course for those professionals, students and chemists who already have a basic understanding of ICP-OES but want to enhance their knowledge further. Go into the detail and depth of ICP-OES, exploring this spectroscopy technique and gain a real, working knowledge of ICP-OES from sample introduction through to data analysis.

“The detailed, step-by-step approach to maintenance and troubleshooting is particularly valuable, as it provides clear practical guidance and makes it easier to diagnose issues systematically and implement effective corrective actions.” Metallurgist, 2025

Applied Method validation | 23rd October 2026

Go beyond the fundamentals of analytical method validation with this intermediate 1-day virtual-classroom based training  designed for laboratory professionals, scientists, analysts, and quality personnel who want to develop, validate, verify, or improve analytical methods. Gain a practical understanding of the entire validation process, from method development and planning through to validation studies, quality control, uncertainty estimation, and accreditation requirements.

“I really like the examples and exercises. Great on own and on example data, helped a lot to see what was discussed. Really nice for an online format.” Analyst, 2024

Why attend an Applied course?

Applied courses link theory and real-world use, helping you understand how scientific techniques are applied in practical settings. Using case studies and exercises, connect concepts to problems and solutions.

Focus on decision-making and not just knowledge, improve your confidence in practical environments and understand the workflow steps to reinforce learning.
