What will you learn on this course?
The four-day Comprehensive GC-MS training course introduces the fundamental theory of quadrupole GC-MS along with the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Agilent single quadrupole MS using MSD ChemStation software.
This course includes an introduction to single quadrupole mass spectrometry, method development and troubleshooting; hardware configuration; MS tuning; data acquisition in scan and selected ion monitoring (SIM) modes; qualitative & quantitative data analysis; reports; sequencing; an introduction to macros; Retention Time Locking (RTL); and method maintenance.
The course will train the operator to perform the maintenance required to ensure the smooth running of the instrument. The course also discusses the principles of troubleshooting by examining the effects of faults in the system on the chromatographic output. This course includes troubleshooting and maintenance focusing on tunes & diagnostics, GC considerations, vacuum system, ion source, quadrupole mass filter and MS detector.
It combines a mixture of classroom based presentations with hands-on hardware and software lab exercises, to give you comprehensive training.

Who is this course for?
This course is primarily for analysts and technicians responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Agilent single quadrupole GC-MS instruments using MSD ChemStation. Please note that while the hands on training will take place on an Agilent 5975 or 5973 the course is suitable for all models of Agilent single quadrupole MS instruments.

Feedback from previous attendees
“The GC-MS course we took with you is the best course I have taken so far because the teacher conveys knowledge in the best possible way, & let us touch/handle things ourselves to better understand them. The theoretical course is also supported by images & presentations of physical materials for easier understanding.” University Lecturer, 2026
“What I enjoyed about this course was the wealth of detailed content, and the most useful aspect was learning how to master the different parts of GC-MS and its functions.” Chemistry Student, 2026
“The course was very well detailed and well structured, which makes it easier to understand the subject even after the class. It is also very clear that the presenter is highly experienced and has an excellent command of the topic. Overall, it is a very well-organized and well-designed course.” Research Scientist, 2026
“I enjoyed answering the questions at the end of the course, as I find it really enjoyable to interact. This training was more in depth, and I like the interaction so I would say it’s great.” Site Chemist, 2024
“The course was very informative and gave a good clear overview of the topic.” Plant Chemist, 2024
