Day 1 and Modules 1, 2 and 3 of the Complete GC & GC-MS and the Practical Essentials of GC & GC-MS course.
Practical Essentials of GC and GC-MS introduction, gases and plumbing and sample introduction is approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and is a classroom-based course that covers the basic definitions of the components involved in GC and GC-MS, the process of separation and the terminology, types of carrier and detector gases used in GC as well as going into the theory, optimisation and application of GC sample introduction. - Understand how GC is hyphenated to MS to form a complete technique
- Know of the various types of GC and GC-MS instrumentation available on the market, such as magnetic sector, Time of Flight (ToF), orbitrap and quadrupole GC-MS
- Know the differences between single-stage and two stage gas regulators
- Comprehend how the supply tubing may need to be tailored to the type of gas being used in GC
- Learn the importance of ferrule selection and how the various types are used in GC such as PTFE and metal ferrules
- Know the methods of large volume injection (LVI) including solvent elimination and rapid LVI
- Know the differences between the various gas sampling valves including rotary and slider valves
