Lab Innovations 2025 is heading to the NEC Birmingham this October where Dr Diane Turner, senior consultant and director of Anthias Consulting is presenting a talk on ‘Reducing Consumables with a Gas Chromatography Sustainability & Health Check’.
The presentation, focusing on the key points from the Royal Society of Chemistry approved training course for Continuing Professional Development, will look at ways that can reduce consumable usage and improve sustainability of existing and new gas chromatography methods. This will include a step-by-step approach to the different stages of sample analysis, from discussing your laboratory gas supply through to detection. Ideas and tips will be shared on the gases used, inlet modes of operation, column internal diameters and flow rates, oven temperatures and GC detector flows. Finally, the presentation will touch upon the importance of gas saver modes, standby methods, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to avoid leaks, reduce power consumption and improve sustainability.

Following the event, Diane said: “Very exciting to attend LabInnovations last week with my daughter, Coral, who is in Year 11. LabInnovations is always great to attend to network with colleagues, catch-up with clients and of course hear about the latest innovations. Usually, although I try to stop by as many exhibitors that I don’t know as possible, I just focus on those in analytical chemistry. But this year, with Coral, we visited a really broad range of exhibitors and had chats with them from Western blotting to robotics to lasers, it was really interesting and I learned a lot too!”
