The Anthias team were delighted to connect with laboratory professionals at a busy and successful Lab Innovations, the laboratory science industry show at the NEC in Birmingham, last week.
Lab Innovations took place on 2nd and 3rd November and this year celebrated its 10th anniversary. Highlights included over 40 hours of talks and presentations across multiple theatres, a sustainability trail and the Lab Awards, for which Anthias was shortlisted for two; Commitment to Skills and Training Award and the Collaborative Project Award.
Anthias Director and Senior Consultant Dr Diane Turner gave a talk on how diverse matrices need a diverse range of analytical techniques, giving insights into strategies for analysing complex samples and analytes. This was part of a programme of talks in the Royal Society of Chemistry theatre. If you missed Diane's talk, please download the presentation slides here.
The Anthias team had a busy schedule of live demonstrations throughout the two days. In a paper chromatography experiment, participants used colouring pens on filter paper to see a visual demonstration of how ink colours separate whilst hearing from GC & GC-MS expert Dr Diane Turner about how the pigments separate depending on the how they interact with the stationary phase and the mobile phase and how this relates to the separation process in gas chromatography.
In a second demonstration, visitors learnt how to correctly trim a capillary GC column and had a go under the expert guidance of Dr Diane Turner. Participants learnt tips for best practices to reduce activity and problems with installation and discussions around the importance for reproducibility and sensitivity.
The show was the perfect opportunity to meet up with partners, colleagues and friends across the industry, this included Anthias' partners who will be hosting Anthias' courses next year; Ellutia Chromatography, who proudly took home the Lab Automation Award at Lab Innovations, and will be hosting the Anthias' Absolute Basics of GC & GC-MS on 13th January 2023 at their facility in Ely, Cambridgeshire and Providion will be hosting Anthias' Hands-on HPLC & LC-MS courses in Manchester.
