A sample preparation method where analytes are extracted by exposing a monolithic silica surface to a sample. The disk & rod shape of material is either immersed or held in the headspace above and then desorbed in the injection inlet of a GC or TD system. The technique is used to collect volatile and semi-volatile analytes.
