Anthias Consulting Partners with RORO to Support Research in Cameroon

Anthias Consulting has a long-standing commitment to supporting scientific research across the globe, particularly in regions where access to advanced analytical instruments is limited. Anthias’ director, Dr Diane Turner, has been a trustee of the charity Recycling Organisation for Research Opportunities (RORO) since 2015. RORO, specialises in repurposing redundant analytical instruments for redistribution to academic institutions in developing countries, ensuring they continue to benefit research and education.

In partnership with RORO, Anthias Consulting has recently sent donated analytical instruments to the University of Yaoundé. The gas chromatography instrumentations sent, include an Agilent GC-MS with a CTC Analytics autosampler capable of liquid, headspace and in-tube extraction (ITEX) sample injection and, an Agilent GC-FID with liquid autosampler and GL Sciences Optic 3 programmable temperature vaporiser plus a large number of instrument consumables. The instrumentation, will be used in advancing research in natural product research, environmental sciences, chemistry, and other disciplines at the university.

RORO and Anthias would like to thank The Open University (The OU), in particular Dr Geraint Morgan in the School of Physical Sciences, for their continued support in this area, including making lab and storage space available for donated instrumentation to be set-up, tested and serviced ready for shipping. For this project, The OU also donated some instrumentation, (a PC and the liquid autosampler) and their help was instrumental in getting the crate packed and shipped. Unilever (Sharnbrook) has been very supportive of RORO activities too and for this project donated the mass spectrometer and pump, CTC autosampler with accessories and large amounts of consumables including vials, crimpers, GC consumables and syringes. RORO would also like to thank CTC Analytics for their service support and donation of maintenance kits for the CTC autosampler and The Pittsburgh Conference for its generous grants to assist with the provision of analytical instrumentation to academics in developing countries including contributing towards the shipping of this instrumentation to Cameroon.

This recent initiative in Cameroon is part of a broader tradition of charitable work by Anthias Consulting. In September 2015, Anthias Consulting partnered with The Open University to donate a Gas Chromatograph Flame Ionisation Detector (GC-FID) to the National University of Mongolia. The equipment was essential for the university’s air pollution research, enabling scientists to better understand and monitor air quality in urban areas.
RORO is always actively seeking donations to continue supporting institutions in need. If you would like to get involved or support these efforts, you can learn more about how to contribute here. By donating, you can help provide vital scientific equipment to foster research and innovation in developing countries.
